LDN London recently welcomed guests to view archive materials and reflect on our history.

Guests at the special event, including supporters and former staff, saw an exhibition about our charity’s 62 years, with photographs, newsletters, and newspaper articles.

They also enjoyed an afternoon tea at the event at our Community Hub.

We were delighted that lots of former staff and long-time supporters came. Many recognised themselves in the pictures and articles. (And we took pictures of them with those photos!).

The exhibition featured some of the hundreds of adults, children and stafft that have been involved with LDN London over the years. It highlighted how society has changed for people with learning disabilities: from the places people live, to the language that is used in society about people with learning disabilities.

The themes for the exhibition were ‘Our History’, ‘Fundraising’, ‘Good News’, ‘Our Places’ and ‘Language’.

LDN was pleased to welcome guests including Shirley Rodwell, one of the founders of the charity in the 1960s. We also welcomed Jane Reynolds, the first matron (or manager) of our short breaks service Alison House, in the late 1970s and 1980s. Alison House still supports people today.
