Time to shine: LDN London starts photography group for learning disabled and autistic people
Developing skills and meeting new people.
LDN London has recently started a regular photography group at its Community Hub, called Time to Shine.
The group is for autistic and learning-disabled people to meet others and develop their photography skills.
Members meet every two weeks and take photographs in the local area.
They choose a theme each session to inspire their photos.
They share their three favourite photographs with the group. They review the photos together on a screen at The Hub. They talk about things such as the colours, the lighting and discuss what they like about them.
The group are hoping to enter their photographs in competitions, such as MENCAP’s photo competition, in 2025.
Nature photos on the Regent’s Canal
I went with the Time to Shine group to the local Regent’s Canal near Westbourne Grove.
The theme for the session was nature and colours. There was lots of inspiration in the local park. There were yellow and golden-brown leaves on the trees. The skate park was also popular for the group to photograph, with lots of interesting colours.
We walked along the canal and took pictures of the boats, ducks and leaves on the ground.
The session was a lovely way of noticing beauty in the local area.
When we weren’t taking photos, we had the chance to talk and get to know each other better!
