"Now getting to the top of Primrose Hill is no problem": Thalia feels happier and healthier

Thalia wants to inspire other people who have Prader-Willi Syndrome.

My name is Thalia and I’ve been living at Croxley Road for just over two years. I have something called Prader-Willi syndrome, which means I never feel full after meals so looking after my weight is really hard.  It also means that I put on weight really quickly because it also effects my metabolism.

When I came to Croxley Road I weighed nearly 14st, I am now down to 9st 8.  I feel happier and it’s so much easier to do the things I enjoy.  I was finding it difficult to walk even short distances but now getting to the top of Primrose Hill is no problem.  I’ve had to stick to a diet, having soups and salad for lunch and low calorie meals in the evening.  It hasn’t been easy but I’m really proud of myself.  If I can do it anyone can!

I go to the gym every week but we try and make exercise fun too, like going on waterslides, going up all those stairs is good exercise and so much easier now!  I also go to the bike club in Little Scrubs on Friday mornings, and go for lots of walks too.

I have started college this year, doing Dance (more fun exercise), Arts and Communication.

Sometimes sticking to a diet is really difficult and there have been a few slip ups on the way, there are times when I’ve found it very frustrating that I can’t eat what I want but it has definitely been worth it.
